My 13 year old daughter Susan wrote this poem of what she thought it might be like to drink and drive. We hope it might make some people stop and think before getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk this summer. God Bless You All. Keep Safe.

From The Heart Of A Child

(On Drinking & Driving)

.

I take another sip without a thought

I search for my keys while wobbling and distraught

I look for the car and then open the door

I search for my keys as my feet hit the floor

I find my keys and start the car

and wonder why everything seems so far

As my foot hits the gas there is a thought in my mind

That this is wrong, I'm committing a crime

I brush that thought away

And make my way down the street

little did I know, soon I would no longer breathe

My friends scream "WALL!" and I look ahead

And I swear I don't know what was going on in me head

But here I lay fire all around

And my friends bodies lay on the ground

I feel so confused, that's when I stop to think

All these lives are lost because of a few drinks

My breathing becomes hard and my chest starts to hurt

I look down and there is blood all over my shirt

I think of my family and friends and I start to cry

And one word sticks in my mind,  "WHY WHY WHY?!?!"

I try to fight and have hope but my heart beat is slow

So I  close my eyes and just let go

As my spirit wanders the air, I look at the bodies and all the lost lives

And I finally realize the consequences when you drink and drive.

The End
