Great News!

It looks like, at the rate we're going from fans in more than 145 countries, we will have our 250,000 votes to bring this Tribute to life.

Please keep up your effort to let all of Michael's fans know about this unique Tribute, so we can reach our goal of having the first dots in his portrait drawn on canvas in time for his birthday on August 29. We have now changed from "Can this Tribute happen?" to "Can we come together to make it happen on Michael's birthday?"

In preparation for the first dots being placed, we are planning a launch event on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Los Angeles. The first dot will be given to Michael. The next dots will be given to those close to Michael and our contest winners. We will have special guests and a display of some items that belonged to Michael. I hope some of you will be able to make it to the event, so I can thank you in person for all of your hard work, support ...and for believing. Those fans in attendance will have an opportunity to meet Artist David Ilan and witness their dots being drawn in the portrait.

Please remember that we still need everyone's help to get enough votes by Michael's birthday.

Thank you all for carrying the torch for this Tribute. We're almost there...

Please Help Fund
Michael's Tribute

While participation in this Tribute is completely FREE for everyone, it does cost a significant amount of money to run it. Funds are needed for many things like publicity, materials, and the world tour that will bring the finished original artwork to fans around the globe.

Many fans have been asking if they will be able to get a copy of Michael's Portrait with their dots in it when it is completed. The answer is YES. I have started a pre-sale, available here, so the money raised from poster sales can be used immediately to support the Tribute. Posters will be reproduced in three sizes and will be shipped as soon as the portrait is completed. There will even be Limited Editions available (if you are interested in those, you should order yours early, so you get a coveted low number).

Special Tribute T-shirts are also available to help raise funds. If you simply want to make a donation, that option is available too. Anything you can do is appreciated and will help make Michael's Tribute Portrait, created by you, a success!

If enough money is raised, we will make donations to charities that were meaningful to Michael.

Board of Advisors

David Ilan has expressed that it is important to him that this Tribute (and the artwork) is created in a way that Michael, himself, would have loved. For this reason, we have assembled a Board of Advisors. Everyone on the Board has known Michael personally and is able to advise us on every aspect of the Tribute to make sure we do it right and honorably.

I would like to welcome the following new members to the Board of Advisors:

Deborah Dannelly
President of The Michael Jackson Fan Club
Lifelong friend

Don Wilson
Creator/Director/Producer - Man in the Mirror video

Joy Robson
Michael's close friend of many years
What's Next?

Once the Tribute has officially started with the ceremonial drawing of the first dots, fans will be directed to The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait website (to be announced). This will be a different location than our current http://www.SupportJacksonPortrait.com site.

Fans will go to the Official Tribute website to (1) Get their free dot; (2) Attach a message to their dot; (3) Visit the site frequently to watch Michael's Portrait grow as more and more fans become part of it! A dot is not drawn in the portrait until someone signs up for it. Each fan will be given their own dot number and a description of the location of their dot in the drawing.

Tell the Media

Please take a few minutes to call or write to your local, national, and international media (newspaper, TV news, radio, magazine, Internet news). If enough of us urge them to cover the story of this most unique Tribute, they will. I can provide you with a press release upon your request. The media all over the world is looking for the next Michael Jackson development - by sharing this news item, we can give them something POSITIVE to report like no other story they've heard about. You don't need any experience to contact them - they love hearing from the public. A Michael Jackson Tribute that connects millions of fans worldwide through an interactive work of art made from dots is a GREAT story.
There's Still Time to Enter the Contests!
Winners Get Their Dot Next To Michael's!

I have created THREE CONTESTS to encourage everyone to go the distance in spreading the word about this project ... and to have FUN doing it!

At least 1,000,000 dots will be hand-drawn on the canvas to create the image of Michael Jackson. Each dot represents a Jackson fan. Michael Jackson, himself, will be given the first dot! As a winner of one of the contests, YOUR dot will be one of the first dots placed on the canvas and will be right next to Michael Jackson's dot! Your dot will be side-by-side with Michael's dot forever. Also, with your permission, I will announce your name on the website for millions of fans to see and graphically point out your dot's location.

The Contests are:
  1. YouTube - Create a YouTube video to promote the Tribute. The video with the most views wins. Click here for more information.
  2. Internet - Place a link on any website, blog, or social network. Anywhere and everywhere! The link that brings in the most visitors wins. Click here for more information.
  3. Anything Goes - Promote the Tribute in the real world. The most creative promotion or stunt wins. Click here for more information.
Good luck!
