Is An Egomediast After You? Written by Nancy

Egomediast: noun.  A new word I coined today, 1-9-2010, to describe the 'alleged' news broadcasters/anchors of today.  It describes the basic agenda behind those who now refer to their programs not as 'the news' but as 'commentary', thus providing the means for self-promotion as an entertainer rather than as a credible source of information.

     There was a time in this country when the people who gave us our local, national, and world news were so well respected for their pursuit of facts and base of knowledge in all matters that concern us, that they would actually be relied upon for their opinions.  I look back on those days with nostalgia.

     A good rule of thumb as to whether the person you trust for your news is someone who deserves this honor is to listen for the words: allegedly, sources say, in my opinion, and according to popular opinion.  There are many other 'back door' words as well that gives this person the opportunity to retract their statements at a later date, after the damage has been done to whomever they have been referring to.

     In my opinion, the allegedly honest people who bring us commentary today, are unethical and irresponsible, or so I am led to believe, through an evaluation of the popular opinion, I have gleaned from my unnamed sources.
    Are you watching the news or commentary?  Are you being informed or entertained? How important is truth to you?  Are you allowing a egomediast to infect your intelligence?
