Backstage At Grammy Awards

Michael Jackson's father Joe Jackson made a surprise stop backstage at the Grammys. The reason became obvious the moment he walked in wearing a black ball cap reading: "Hip hop boot camp" in silver glitter.

He announced that he's starting a TV reality show in September looking for "world's best hip-hop artist."

His son, meanwhile, remains overseas.

"I think he'll be there just as long as he's being treated like he want to be. He'll come back," Jackson said.

"He's not in exile. He's just there getting away from some of the people he doesn't want to be around right now."

Papa's new bag

Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson visited the press room to plug his new reality show, Hip-Hop Bootcamp, due in September.

Asked if any of his sons would participate, he joked that "I don't need their help. They need mine." And the Jackson daughters? "They can help if they want."

He added that he speaks to son Michael about once a month, but reaffirmed that the King of Pop won't be coming back to the States anytime soon. "He"s sold more records than anyone in show business. He doesn't deserve to be treated like that."
