| ~ We 'Can' Make A Difference~ by Bonnie Lamrock |
| I've just read a wonderful article from a journalist named Deborah B Pryor. The article was called “Will Humanity Ever Visit the Media”. This article ‘blew me away' and would be recommended for those who were left with a bad taste in their mouth after the Martin Bashir fiasco.
I've noticed that now more than ever, people are speaking out in support of Michael Jackson. But I've noticed something ELSE happening too. The media has finally pushed the envelope ‘too far' over this past year. They've pushed it to a level that has inspired people from all over the WORLD to speak out and make their feelings known, NOT just Michael Jackson fans.
My mum used to tell me that if you give a person enough rope, eventually they'll hang themselves. Well, if that saying is true, then the Martin Bashir incident was a rope about 10 miles long!!! The negative media and tabloid people have always had a reputation about them, but I think things had spiraled out of control when they started ripping into Michael over this past year. That's when they became almost as a group of sharks in a frenzy, losing their train of thought and looking at Michael as a piece of meat, not a human being.
What fascinates me even more is that the broadcasting people allow these stories to be aired. It's almost as if there's no ‘censorship' in TV, radio or print anymore. I wish we could have some censorship back in our communication systems. Maybe even have a ‘spring cleaning' of the media, (if you will), eliminating all the ‘excess baggage', but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Not until WE speak up when WE see things we don't approve of on TV, in the newspaper even radio, we write in or call. I've written this letter in hopes of inspiring people to speak out about their feelings concerning the media. I think it can make a big difference. Someone has to do SOMETHING, because it's getting worse every day. The media is not only making a circus out of our broadcasting systems but they're tearing apart human being's live's, and make no mistake about it, they're ultimately hurting children as well! We are losing our media source and 'gaining' a savage meat market and it's happening so fast that we NEED to encourage people to act NOW! It may seem futile at first because it seems that the media has all the power, but without the public, they're “nothing”!
LET'S SHOW THEM HOW WE FEEL
