Heart Of Innocence
Sweet one, we didn't know what we had.
Forgive us for our callousness at your plight
For the false accusations that became your
Cross to bear.
Truth will prevail, I know, we'll make it right.
You were a force of nature to be reckoned with!
You made us see the world through your eyes,
And opened them to the magic waiting to be discovered.
Yet you carried all this pain deep inside.
They made you become a vagabond and a stranger
in your own land.
A gypsy and a foreigner, you couldn't understand.
Those of us who stood by your side,
Worried about your well-being.
How could they build you up, only to knock you down?
Did they not see what we were seeing?
A compassionate heart of innocence so true,
You could charm the birds out of the trees!
A reverence for Mother Earth unbounded
Would bring us to our knees.
You made us stop and think and take stock.
What has our purpose become?
Shall we listen to the next sound byte
Have we gone completely numb?
Yet, your cry in the wilderness went unanswered
Like the lonely call of the wild
Where were we when you reached out
With the simplicity of a child?
Now like sleeping beauty, you softly rest.
It's in Eternity that you belong.
In the "pristine hills and valleys where no one dies"
That come together in the song.
For you, Michael
