Fun Facts For March 7th

1985 - We Are The World was released.

Although Michael was present throughout the evening’s events, he recorded his vocal parts earlier in the evening, before the other group members arrived. The song quickly became an anthem for the 80s, and along with the Band-Aid single, inspired a wave of musical charity events, from Live Aid on July 17, 1985 (which, ironically, Michael did not participate in, due to being tied up in filming Captain EO) to Hands Across America on May 25, 1986.

1997 - The Best R&B/Soul Video Award was renamed the Michael Jackson Video Award at the 11th annual Soul Train Music Awards.

2001 - There was an explosion of "Michael Mania" at the tenth annual Michael Jackson Day in London. The event, which was held at the London Apollo, is put on every year to celebrate the life and achievements of the greatest entertainer in musical history.

This year's celebration was made all the more special because the King himself actually put in an appearance! At the end of the show Michael hobbled onto stage with his broken foot and had this to say: " The new album is two months away...it will be incredible I can assure you. Thank you all for coming here. I am overjoyed and humbled by what I have seen here tonight."

2010 - Michael Jackson honored with 2010 Angel Award by the Children Uniting Nations charity for his work to help disadvantaged youngsters around the world.

Randy Jackson accepted the 'Angel Award' on Michael's behalf. Children Uniting Nations is a proactive organization created to bring attention to the plight of at-risk and foster youth. Their goal is to reach as many children in out-of-home care by offering role-model support, guidance, a sense of community and promoting the importance of an education.

Jermaine Jackson Official STATEMENT

Last week, a misleading press release was issued, without my knowledge, to announce the iTunes release of "a dedication song" to
Whitney Houston. I would like to make clear that no such song was ever approved by me. Further, I have not, and will not, receive any monies for it.

This song was recorded more than three years ago. No-one informed me,
and nor did I sign any permissions, for it ever to be commercially
released.

After making strong reservations to those responsible, I have today been assured that the process has started to remove this

song from iTunes. While this matter is being resolved, I wanted to offer this explanation

to the fans in order to clarify the situation now that the funeral has taken place.

"We have to get out the message of the need to heal our children and heal the world... to recognize that we need each other and must care for one another, help inspire us to

Hello to all my friends in France! Though I couldn’t be there in person tonight to accept this prestigious award, I’m so happy to have the chance to send this message to let all my French fans know how much your support has meant throughout the years.

It’s hard to believe that 25 years ago, Quincy Jones and I embarked on an album named “Thriller.” To be able to say that “Thriller” still holds the record as the biggest selling album

of all time, is just mind blowing. I have you,

my fans throughout the world to thank for this achievement.

Though this award tonight honours me for my lifetime achievements, there is still much

more to come from Michael Jackson. My passion for music has never stopped. And for those who don’t know, I’ve been in the studio recording Thriller 25th Anniversary album, with a lot of surprise guests. It’s my hope that “Thriller” continues to live on for each new generation to discover.

So thank you TF1 and NRJ for this very special award. It means so much to me to be honoured by you. And thank you to my fans. I love you from the bottom of my heart and I hope to see you very soon. I love you. God bless you.”
