Michael Jackson Tells Personal Chef: Take Care of Me
The personal chef to Michael Jackson, Kai Chase, describes her encounters with the King of Pop, his three children and Dr. Conrad Murray.
Chase tells Meredith Vieira on the "Today Show" that prior to Jackson's London shows the singer told her, "I need you to take care of me." Jackson told the chef off-offhandedly that his rehearsals were "killing him" but says he was excited about the tour. The chef tells Vieira it was important to the music icon that him and his family were eating fresh, healthy foods.
As for Dr. Murray, Kai says he would usually come downstairs to retrieve Jackson's breakfast and would sometimes join them for dinner. She told the "Today Show" that sometimes the doctor would inquire about the singer's diet and was adamant about him eating.
She also says she saw Dr. Murray more routinely in June and witnessed oxygen tanks being brought into the home. "Normally in the morning, he would bring oxygen tanks from upstairs downstairs, one in each hand," she said of Dr. Murray.
Chase remembers Jackson as a "lovely, sensational" man and says he had a happy home. "He was a fabulous father to his children," Chase tells Vieira.
The chef says on her first day of work at the Jackson home, she was greeted by the children, whom she was told, were anticipating her arrival. She also says music was always playing throughout the house and that the children made her sweet, homemade cards.
