Michael Jackson shoes, hat sold at auction

The hat and shoes worn by Michael Jackson in a landmark 2001 performance in New York were sold Wednesday at auction in London for 22,800 pounds, auctioneers Bonhams said. The late pop legend's accessories from a television special at Madison Square Garden, held to mark Jackson's 30th anniversary as a solo artist, beat its pre-sale estimate of 10-12,000 pounds. Jackson's performance, filmed over two nights in September 2001, was watched by a record-breaking 44 million people when it aired two months later. The top-selling lot from the entertainment memorabilia sale at Bonhams was Ray Lowry's original cover artwork for The Clash's 1979 album "London Calling", which fetched 72,000 pounds.
