Rolling Stone Mag With Another MJ Cover
As a tribute to Michael Jackson, Rolling Stone magazine had already released a special issue dedicated to him. Now Michael appears on the cover for the second consecutive issue which will be available at newsstands on July 22, 2009.
According to MTV News, the cover story takes a close look at Michael's final days. It explores the locations for rehearsals for the London shows and Michael's will to reorganize his life better. The article also quotes people who were close to Michael during that time, including session musicians, security guards and promoters.
In a video on the Rolling Stone website writer Claire Hoffman reports:
"They seemed like they'd be the people who would have the least amount of spin. Everybody was saying that he was really, really into this. He was so pumped about doing this tour. He wanted it to be the greatest show on Earth."
Reportedly, Michael was well aware of the public's perception of him. Thus, the 'This Is It' tour was intended to re-establish him as a great performer rather than a tabloid icon.
Multiple sources said that Michael's rehearsals were awe-inspiring. Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich for example told Rolling Stone magazine:
"I got chills, literally."
