Second annual Fanvention set for Chicago

Fanvention features tours, dance, birthday celebration, special guests

Gary, IN -- It's time for the Second Annual MJFanvention. Fanvention is a combination of the words “fan” and “convention” and celebrates the remarkable talent and life of world-renown performer Michael Jackson. The event runs from August 26 – 28 at the Inn of Chicago, one of Chicago's premier boutique hotels on Chicago's famous Gold Coast.



Jackson, a native of Gary, IN developed his talent with his brothers in their home at 2300 Jackson Street. They toured throughout Northwest Indiana and Chicago as they developed their performance skills before leaving for California and the incubator of Motown Records. The event will feature tours to Jackson's home in Gary, which is still visited today, and venues where he performed throughout the Chicago area. 


Attendees should anticipate an exciting weekend jam-packed with fun, including a mega-celebration hosted in the Lakeview Terrace of one the city’s most vibrant destination—Navy Pier. The soiree is set to take place Saturday, August 27 and guests are free to come outfitted in MJ-themed attire to enjoy the night’s festivities.            

Fanvention weekend patrons may also look forward to absorbing the tales of famed MJ supporters and intellectuals. Each day will be infused with candid accounts from author, MJ historian, and columnist for the Chicago Reader Jake Austen and Geraldine Hughes, an author and former legal secretary to Attorney Barry Rothman, Evan Chandler's lawyer at the time of the 1993 allegations against Michael Jackson. Other presented treats to guests include a showing of never-before-seen footage by video producer Larry Nimmer and a thorough explanation of MJ’s estate given by estate planning attorney Ray Waters.            

MJ Fanvention has also teamed up with environmentally-focused companies, Whole Foods and A Million Trees for Michael to present the 2011 celebration. Through his music, Michael continually displayed an overall devotion to earth appreciation. Staying green-minded, this year’s event will be paying special homage to Michael’s lifelong commitment to the environment with help from its eco-friendly partners.

Many tributes have been held around the world for Michael Jackson since his passing in June 2009. Most were solemn, mournful occasions where fans gathered to remember the King of Pop. But during the weekend of August 26 - 28 fans will embark on an unparalleled celebration filled with entertainment, tributes and a birthday bash that’s sure to be memorable.
