'The Voice That's Been Stilled'

There came a favorite son to shine
A light of grace profound.
The wordsmith of a lifetime
Would touch us with his sound.

The magic that transpired
I'm convinced, not of this Earth.
His Love would melt the music
Into sweetness since his birth.

A living doll, before our eyes
Who chose the hardest stance.
Who refused to ignore the children's state
Instead would risk the chance.

He would make a difference
In this world so full of woe.
To use the tools of stardom
To make the people know.

"Within the laughter, there is a tear",
Was your wistful quote.
You made that your signature
With every spoken note.

You opened the mythical landscape
Along with many eyes.
I feel your "deep soft silence",
In the moments when I write.

I won't forget what you've done.
How you always lead the way
With your gentle plea of Love
It stays with me still this day.

In God's mysterious design,
We don't know all that's willed.
I'll ponder these things within my heart
And remember the voice that's been stilled.
