December 1978 Destiny by The Jacksons is released by Epic Records. This is the first album for which the Jacksons have total creative control and is a major success. With the exception of Blame It On The Boogie, all the songs on the album are written by the group.
1st December 1982 Thriller is released in the USA (and on the 6th December in the UK). It is the album that ensures that Michael will never again be seen as just another Jackson. A masterpiece of brilliant songwriting, it sports an impressive collection of musicians that span the pop, R&B, rock and jazz genres. The album was recently certified with sales of over 104 million copies worldwide by The Guinness Book of World
Records.
2nd December 1983 A year and a day following the release of the Thriller album, MTV debuts the 'Thriller' video, a 14-minute short film of the albums title track which out shines even the brilliance and excitement of 'Billie Jean' and 'Beat It'. At a cost of $800,000, 18 dancers, who have had years of professional training are recruited for the video but, according to choreographer Michael Peters, Michael is better than any of them.
