Apollo Theater Hosting MJ Tribute

Harlem’s Apollo Theater is holding a public memorial service for the late pop star Michael Jackson. The theater’s salute will begin at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday June 30, and break for a moment of silence at 5:26 p.m. EST - the time his East Coast fans learned that Jackson had died last Thursday in Los Angeles.

The Apollo says it will let 600 fans at a time pay their respects inside the theater, where DJs will spin Jackson’s music accompanied by video tributes.

Thousands of fans have already written pages and pages of messages on a wall on Harlem’s Main Street, displayed publicly for all to read.

Michael Jackson was a mere nine years old when The Jackson 5 won the Apollo’s Amateur Night contest in 1967.
