TAIPEI, Taiwan — HTC yesterday announced its official partnership with Cirque de Soleil’s “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” in Taipei with many special offers for Taiwan’s audiences to promote the show that recreates the classic performances of the King of Pop.
Jack Tong (董俊良), president of HTC North Asia, said that this is the first time that HTC, one of the nation’s top global brands, is working in Taiwan with Cirque de Soleil, the world’s leading performing group.
“This is not only the exchange of culture and technology between Eastern and Western cultures but also a benefit that HTC provides for all Taiwanese audiences to have the chance to experience a world-class performance in Taiwan,” said Tong.
Chief Operation Officer of Gold Media Group’s Event Department Charles Lee (李佳諭) said that the group has been working with Cirque de Soleil since 2009, hoping to bring the world’s top ranking performance to Taiwan.
Since launching in October 2011, Cirque du Soleil’s “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” has been on a global tour that has spanned 88 cities. This summer, the troupe visits Japan and Taipei.
Cirque Tour publicist Laura Silverman said that the most difficult part of the show is that Michael Jackson is not here with us. There is only one Michael Jackson and the performers do their best to honor him, she said.
Silverman said in order to present the classic Michael Jackson performance they have chosen “the best artists that are out there and 49 world-class acrobats, dancers, musicians who really are the finest at what they do.”
“Compared to other Cirque du Soleil shows,” Silverman said, “there are a lot more dances in this particular show, so many of our dancers have to learn acrobatic moves and many of our acrobats have to learn some dance moves.”
“You will see traditional Cirque du Soleil moments like the acrobatic pole dancing contortion, but you will see a lot of dances like Michael’s iconic lean move, the moon walk, and of course his music, his lyrics, and his voice are the driving force of the show.”
Audiences can expect Jackson chart-toppers like “Dangerous,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Beat It,” “Earth Song,” “They Don’t Care About Us,” “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Scream” and “Man in the Mirror.”
“Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” will take place at Taipei Arena from June 28 to June 30.
