HOWELL — Aspiring or professional dancers are invited to learn Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance at The Action Room Dance and Fitness Studio next month, and raise money for rescue animals while they’re at it.
The classes, now in their fifth year, will begin Sept. 15. All who attend are encouraged to donate to the Rescue Ridge Animal Rescue, which services Monmouth and Ocean counties. The rescue shelter has been filled with animals, the studio says, after people were forced to surrender their pets after superstorm Sandy.
“The toll on the shelters and rescues has been tremendous,” said dance instructor Piper Williams in a news release. “Rescue Ridge is staffed 100 percent by volunteers and so all of the money we raise goes directly towards saving animals lives, something we can all be proud of.”
The classes will take place at noon Sundays and 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, according to the release. All are welcome, regardless of dance experience.
“It is a great way to keep active, have fun with the family, and for us to show that anyone can be a dancer,” said studio manager Patti Gergely in the release, adding ages six through 60 can participate.
Following the classes, the studio will hold the annual “Thrill the World” event Oct. 26, where people dance to 1983 hit single “Thriller” at the same time worldwide to break a world record. The studio’s dance is expected to kick off at 4 p.m.
The studio is located at 4411 Route 9. Fore more information, contact The Action Room at 732-551-4344 or email [email protected].
