CIRCLEVILLE — From the time their wedding got started Saturday evening, Tina and David Fox knew it would be one they would never forget.
It began with the wedding party departing out of the Foxes’ home just off U.S. 23 in Circleville dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” for the crowd in attendance with makeup and the appearance of blood on their clothes and faces. Soon thereafter, Tina and David appeared for their zombie-themed wedding with a majority of their guests also looking like zombies.
The priest who married the Foxes also transformed her appearance into a zombie to make the wedding a reality that was largely based off the TV series “The Walking Dead.” The pair, who have been together for five years after meeting on a dating website, admitted it wasn’t a traditional wedding, but that’s just the way they intended it to be.
Tina is a hairdresser and received some input from one of her customers about the wedding, which has been about a year and a half in the making.
“We decided let’s just have some fun with it,” Tina said. “We’re big ‘Walking Dead’ fans, so one of my clients said, ‘Why don’t you have a zombie wedding?’ That was all it took.”
Tina said she wanted everyone to have fun without everyone having to dress up for the occasion, a sentiment also shared by her husband.
“I mean, what can go wrong? You drop something on your dress or fall down and get dirty, who cares?” she said. “If it rained, that would have been fine too.”
Many items for the wedding were bought at the Dollar Store, while the wedding attire was purchased at thrift stores, said Tina, who encouraged people to think differently.
“It doesn’t have to be expensive to have fun and be awesome,” she said. “It was cheap, and you don’t have to spend $20,000 on a wedding to have a fun one.”
David’s son, Michael, admitted he thought David and Tina were “a little crazy” when he heard they wanted to have a zombie wedding.
“But now I’m glad they did because this is the most fun at a wedding I’ve ever had in my entire life,” he said. “I don’t feel like I have to conform to any social expectations of a wedding, and I’m having fun.”
Tina said the couple’s other three children were on board with their plans for the zombie wedding that involved practicing “Thriller” on an Xbox 360 console.
“If we look like idiots, so what?” Tina said. “We had fun.”
As far as their honeymoon is concerned, the Foxes said they plan to visit the Amish country for four days at a bed-and-breakfast.
