Thriller' (Michael Jackson)

It was wildly popular in 1982, and it's wildly popular again, hovering around No. 2 on the iTunes Most Popular list. "Thriller" works well on the small screen for three reasons: it's loaded with compelling close-ups, you can't take your eyes off the dancing, and there's actual plot, dialogue and characters. At nearly 14 minutes long, "Thriller" may be the closest thing to a full-length movie you'll find for sale on iTunes. You certainly get your money's worth.

Apple Sells a Million Videos in New Service

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL.O) on Monday said its iTunes online service has sold a million videos in under 20 days, sending shares up almost 5 percent.

iTunes, the most popular online music store, began selling about 2,000 music videos and episodes of ABC's ``Desperate Housewives'' and ``Lost'' for $1.99 on October 12.

The debut coincided with the launch of a new generation of Apple's iPod digital music player that can play video on its 2.5-inch color screen.

Technology, media and Wall Street analysts are eyeing Apple's performance for validation that a market for legal downloading of videos exists.

Topping the list of big sellers were music videos by  Michael Jackson, Fatboy Slim and Kanye West, as well as episodes of ABC shows.

``Selling one million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal downloads,'' Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, said in a statement. ``Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings.'' At the service's launch, Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS.N) ABC was the only nonmusic programming provider aside from Jobs' Pixar Animation Studios Inc. (PIXR.O), which is also providing short films for the service.

Sources have said Apple is in discussions to lure more U.S. television networks to provide programming.

Apple shares gained $2.63, or 4.8 percent, to $57.10; Shares of  Real Networks, Inc. (RNWK.O) which operates a rival online music service, gained 37 cents, or 4.9 percent to $7.87 on the Nasdaq in afternoon trade.

Tom Mesereau, Michael Jackson's Attorney, Honored by L.A. Mayor and Police Chief

LOS ANGELES - Gospel music rocked the rafters Sunday as the mayor and police chief of Los Angeles joined hundreds of members of a black church to honor Michael Jackson's lawyer, Thomas Mesereau Jr., as "a champion of justice."

Mesereau, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Police Chief Bill Bratton swayed and clapped as a band played and a choir of young people sang religious songs in a rock tempo. They also presented a medley of upbeat numbers in praise of America.

"We are here to honor a man who is setting an example for all of us," the mayor told the packed chapel at Brookins Community African Methodist Church. He noted that Mesereau is "a white man who has for many years now marched with the mothers of Watts against gang violence. He co-founded a legal clinic for the indigent."

He noted that Mesereau also travels to Alabama every year to defend a death penalty case free of charge.

"Anytime I get the opportunity to acknowledge those among us willing to reach out as Tom has, I'm truly honored," said the mayor, who presented Mesereau with a city proclamation.

The pastor of Brookins, Rev. Dr. Frederick O. Murph, said, "When I look at Tom I see a rainbow. I think of Tom as a brother."

The Rev. Cecil "Chip" Murray, recently retired pastor of the First AME Church of Los Angeles and an icon of the black community, remembered separate occasions when Mesereau brought Jackson and former client Robert Blake to church with him.

With Sunday's service focusing on a reading from Daniel, Murray described Mesereau as "an attorney not intimidated in the lion's den."

"You saw him with Michael Jackson doing the impossible," said Murray. The remark brought sustained applause.

Also attending the service was Carl Douglas, a member of the O.J. Simpson defense team, and Susan Yu, one of the lawyers who helped Mesereau defend Jackson.

Bratton said outside the church that he and his wife, attorney and TV personality Ricki Kleiman, met Mesereau several years ago and became familiar with his work.

"This is a city of many neighborhoods," said Bratton. "It's important to have people like Tom who reach out beyond their own neighborhood."

Mesereau told the group: "I am so touched, so honored and so privileged. I thank all of you very much."

Jackson was acquitted of child molestation charges in June after a five-month trial in Santa Maria, Calif. The singer has been living in Bahrain since then.

Despite all the courtroom drama of recent years, Michael Jackson's status in the pop pantheon cannot be dismissed.

He led the Jackson 5 to sales of more than 100 million records, and repeated the feat as a solo artist with such hit-producing goldmines as "Off the Wall" and "Thriller." For more than two decades Michael Jackson's fame, wealth and notoriety grew exponentially as he became a global superstar.

Jackson was the first Black artist to crack MTV, and his concerts broke box office records. He wrote musical stories and created song-length films that set new standards in performance and production.

Something to Think About: They Just Can't Get Enough

Jury duty? Is the county of Santa Barbara that desperate? Did they recklessly spend all that money they made from the trial? Back in debt are we? No one in the free or not so free world believes that this jury notification was random. Unless, being complacent in one's ignorance and mental stagnation is a way of life. The Humpty Dumpty's of America don't seem to get it. You don't own Michael Jackson. There are handlers who carefully package some sports and entertainment stars so they can keep audiences transfixed on their manufactured personas and escapades. It's a drug of a different dimension. That is the America that has been imported to the world. It is a façade that the world isn't buying into anymore. Michael owns Michael and that bothers too many noble parasities.

It would be refreshing again to focus on some talent, works in progress, new innovations and creative outlooks on the social and economic problems that currently face our realities. The media has degenerated into such a tabloid merry-go-round because many writers and critics are far too intellectually complacent in that fictitious non-world than actually contributing something new to the human discussion. Who doesn't love engaging television, film and scholarly inquiry? I'd like to see it. Why does there seem to be such a vacuum in contemporary American culture? It isn't by accident, that's for sure.

The ends to which this carefully controlled media is permitted to defame a man however which way they choose is a profoundly dangerous presentation of what else America is importing to the world. The world market will decide that it has to stop.

On a lighter note, the other day I was singing to myself James Brown's rendition of the Frank Sinatra classic, "That's Life." I love James' interpretation. It always seems to pick me up after a minor setback and I seem to have a shuffle in my step when I visualize my life with that song. There are a couple lyrics I'd like to share, once again. Perhaps it might motivate you to listen to that song once again.

 Some people get their kicks on stomping on a dream.

 But I never, never let it get me down.

 I want to know if you know what I'm talking about.

Michael Jackson Mobbed in first London Appearance

LONDON - Hundreds of Michael Jackson fans turned up outside a London theatre Saturday to catch a glimpse of the pop star as he arrived to see the stage version of hit movie Billy Elliot.

Security staff forced a path for Jackson, 47, through a crowd of admirers and photographers standing outside the Victoria Palace theatre so he could reach the front door. But the singer fell to the ground in the commotion.

Jackson's children accompanied him to the show but had their faces covered by clothing as they entered the theatre.

Jackson was staying at the Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane. His fans had gathered outside the luxury hotel in hope of seeing him before heading to the theatre.

"We were outside his hotel and there was a rumour that he was coming here, so we came down," said admirer Phillip Goldstone, 22, from east London.

Inside the theatre, Gary Dean, 43, from Ramsgate, sat three rows in front of Jackson during the performance.

He said: "We knew at the interval that he was there and there was some clapping.

'Nobody really knew before that because the lights had gone down by the time he came in.' Roxanne Wisenberg, 47, from San Diego, was one of those people to meet the singer during the interval.

"He talked to us saying hello and there were a lot of people around him," she said.

"He was very nice and his children were with him."
But chaotic scenes followed as Jackson left the theatre and greeted screaming fans.

He shook hands, took posters and gave his typical wave and victory sign to fans waiting behind police barriers.

But many broke through a barrier to surround his waiting blue people carrier so they could get close to their idol.

And officers had to fend them off so that he could make his getaway.

The scenes echoed similar ones at the Dorchester earlier in the day when Jackson had to abandon plans to exit through the front of the hotel.
Jackson is in London to work on recording a song to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.

FAN DIARY: "I still can't believe it. I saw Michael...!!"

Yep, that's right! You heard!

It all began this morning when me and my friend Jade went to meet my two best MJ buds, Karl and Steve (Biggsy) at Victoria Station at 11:30. We caught the first taxi we could find and made our way excitedly to the hotel where Michael was staying, 'The Dorchester' in Park Lane. 

After non-stop laughter and excitement and about a 7 minute drive, we got out, outside of the hotel. We arrived to find about 50 fans gathered around the hotel, some with huge posters, signs and banners reading "Michael Jackson - We love you more". They were playing his music, joyfully singing his songs and meeting each other. Of course, we fit in straight away. 

There was, of course, press scattered about, trying to get interviews from fans. We were all only too happy to tell the world how wonderful Michael is and explain why we made such an effort to be there.

We stood there patiently for 2 hours straight, waiting hopefully, excitedly - were we really going to meet Michael Jackson!!?? The King of Pop - our idol!!!?? Within an hour, hotel security bought out some bars to keep us back as much as they could. Fans went mad. Was he finally going to make an appearance? We made up this chant. Half would yell "MICHAEL" and the other half "JACKSON" this went on for about 20 minutes. Other little songs were chanted later.

At one point a lady peered from out of the hotel. She came up to myself and a couple of others and tipped us off about where Michael would be at 2:30. "You heard about the show Billy Elliot, going on at the 'Victoria Palace theatre?  You guys should go, ya know its sounds good, starts at 2:30," she whispered. "Is Michael going to be there?" someone asked. "I dunno," she said (almost cheekily).  She looked away for a second then whispered "Don't tell the press!" She walked away - we didn't know what to think. Who was she? Did she know Michael? Was he going to be there? We wondered for a while.

Michael's car suddenly appeared. It took off and drove round the corner past the hotel. Fans went mad!! We all ran as fast as we could - screaming!!

Was this Mike?? Was he really in this car? It turns out it wasn't (though it was his car). When it stopped round the corner we realized this was a diversion to get us out of the way so he could leave the hotel and go to the theatre without too much of a struggle. This was not to be, however, when the fans caught on we all ran soooo fast still screaming, past the hotel and just up the road slightly.  

Where were we? I thought. The crowd of us had stopped where his car now was. It was still the hotel building but it was this place 'The Ballroom' it said. His car sat there. Someone walked into the lobby, they looked shocked, this lady had just seen Paris (Michael's young daughter) run past through the window. "OMG, I just saw little Paris! She's soooo beautiful! She was running past in a little red dress!" We all talked about it for a minute then I decided to go and have a look for myself. After 1 minute, the hotel manager said Michael was about to leave through this door. I was shell-shocked. Was he really going to stand where I was standing??? I realized I was really going to see him! Soon police and guards forced us into 2 separate groups. One on the left side the other on the right. There was a walkway in between where Michael would walk through to enter his car with his children. Someone opened his car doors and some fans shouted "Be calm, be calm, be calm!" Holding each other back (well, the rowdy ones anyway). We didn't want poor Mike to be bombarded, we wanted to make history and make it so that this would be the first time when fans would stay calm.

Soon out came 'Grace' the children's nanny. "Be careful" she said - "his children are there" she said warning us. Out they came, one behind the other. First little Paris, then following her was her gorgeous brother, Prince. I remember crouching down to get a view of them. Prince was right in front of me! OMG! It couldn't be, I thought. I was shaking, along with everyone else. I just couldn't believe it. Prince had these huge brown eyes and big blonde hair. Paris had long brown, wavy hair. Just before Prince got into the car he turned around and looked at his daddy behind (who had just appeared). I will never forget the look on his face. He looked sort of sad, and desperate. He looked like he was thinking 'here we go again look what they're doing to you, Dad'. They got into the car. 

Now was the big one. Michael Jackson himself. The feeling I had was just soooo indescribable. The most amazing feeling I'd ever felt in my whole life. He was there standing in front of me! He stopped for a minute or two to sign autographs. It was kind of funny the way he was grabbing the pics of himself, really reluctantly and slowly, worried he might be pulled into the crowd. My friend Jade was among those wanting their pics signed. He said no more but she said to him, "MJ, please sign my picture!" He said 'ok' and took it, signed it and handed it back. He walked passed us all and crawled into the car. 

They sped off.

The plan now was to grab the nearest taxi and follow him. Maybe he WAS going to the theatre after all? I walked away from the building and back to the entrance of the hotel, I found myself in tears. My emotions were running high, along with many other people's right then. Jade stopped to calm me down. We lost Karl and Steve. I spoke to them on the phone to find they were outside the theatre. They had followed Mike there. Me and Jade jumped into the nearest taxi we could find (we couldn't find the underground station and we were in a rush). After 10 minutes and £7, we jumped out at the entrance to the theatre and found our friends. We talked for about 5 minutes and suddenly fans screaming again. Again they made two sides of fans and a walkway for Michael. A couple of police where there but not much security at all. The first person to get out of the car was Raymone Bain, Michael's spokesperson. She stood at the entrance and yelled "Listen! Michael's children are there! PLEASE be calm." After a second, the children's nanny ran out of the car really quickly with Paris in her arms, kicking and crying... poor little girl. She must have been petrified (although probably used to it). It's still a scary thing for a small child. The only video I got this time was of Grace and Paris's kicking legs and feet.

Prince soon scuttled along, thank God he made it ok. No one was expecting what was to come. Michael jumped out of the car. He walked towards the entrance and was unexpectedly pushed to the ground. He was on his knees. People were quite rough at this point. It was quite a sight. An awful one at that. Many of our hearts went out for him at that point. Michael was picked up and pulled into the venue by one of the security. What an awful thing to happen. The picture of him enclosed in this email is Michael just seconds before the incident we had got out of the car, taken by Jade. This is how close we actually were to him. Jo, my friend actually touched him too.

Myself, Jade, Karl, Steve and Jo all went to Burger King across the road. We looked back on all of our videos and pictures. We couldn't believe how lucky we were. Twice in one day! We sat and ate our well deserved meals. After all we hadn't eaten or drunk for hours. Waiting outside the hotel there was no shops or anything. I looked at my friends, they were all staring out of the window. What was it I thought? Karl explained something weird was going on because all the fans were crowded together outside the theatre. I didn't think anything of it because I couldn't see. I sarcastically said "Is this one of those times where we drop our food and run?" They all laughed and looked calm - about 3 second later, maybe even 2, they looked outside then at each other and yelled "YES!" and I've never seen anything like it. The whole of Burger King upped and left. It was soooo funny we ran outside and had to cross this huge road to get back to the theatre. I was like "OMG, I didn't mean it, guys! LOL!" They were all like "LOOK" I ran across the road with my hands full, my drink in one hand. I got excited and yelled "**** it" and smashed my coke to the ground. We thought Mike was coming out but it turned out that his spokesperson, Raymone Bain, was outside having a fag break. LOL! The whole situation was soooo hilarious because of what I'd said. We all left our food and stuff in there as well. Never went back for it.

Steve asked Raymone if, when she went back into the theatre, she'd get Mike to sign his Box Set. She took it. I still don't know whether he got it back yet. Me and Jade left after a bit of mingling with the fans. We chatted to them, swapped images and videos. They were all great people, so kind, and excited. We were all together on this. There was kind of a unique bond going on. Myself and Jade hugged our friends goodbye when all of a sudden fans were chanting "**** the press, MJ is the best" That was excellent. I went "wait a minute - I HAVE to join in quickly". We then left after a minute or so. I was sad to see the end of an amazing day!

I still can't believe it. I saw Michael and his gorgeous babies.

He was healthy, had a wonderful complexion and looked happy, which we were all soooo glad to see. I hope his experience wasn't too bad for him.

I know I'll never forget this day. It was magical. And I wouldn't have loved to share it with anyone else. My friends are amazing guys and the fans were fantastic as well. I hope to see them all next time.As for those of you who are going tomorrow good luck! Just remember to stay as calm as possible and try to keep people calm. Have fun! Hope you are successful in MJ spotting. Oh and remember not to believe EVERYTHING you're told. Just be wise.

Young dancing queens and kings slipped into their blue suede shoes on Wednesday night to pay tribute to their favourite popular artists. More than 100 Toolamba Primary School students from Prep to Year 6 were involved in the concert at the Eastbank Centre in Shepparton, which combined well-known music tunes with choreographed dance moves.

ABBA, Michael Jackson, Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue and The Wiggles were among the artists and groups the students chose to honour.

Teacher and concert coordinator Marita Eddy said the performance was a fun activity for the entire school, but also allowed Year 6 students to take on greater responsibility.

"Teaching and working with younger students enables them to retain knowledge and leadership skills needed in later life," Ms Eddy said.

She said judging from the amount of giggles in the change rooms, The Wiggles and Michael Jackson acts were quite popular.

"All the kids loved The Wiggles and they got really creative with Michael Jackson," Ms Eddy said.

"They told his story from when he was young and pretended he went to Toolamba Primary School."

Two Men Indicted on Charges of Illegally Recording Michael Jackson & Attorney on XtraJet Aircraft

Sep. 22, 2005 - Two air service businessmen were indicted on federal charges of secretly recording Michael Jackson two years ago as he flew to Santa Barbara with his attorney to surrender to Santa Barbara authorities. Jeffrey Borer and Arvel Jett Reeves used two digital camcorders and remote microphones to record "a professional entertainer and his attorney" as the pair traveled on a private jet from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara in November 2003, according to a three-count indictment filed Wednesday.

The two were charged with conspiracy, endeavoring to intercept oral communication and witness tampering in an alleged scheme between Nov. 19, 2003 and Nov. 21, 2003.

The entertainer they recorded was Michael Jackson, said a source familiar with the case who asked not to be identified because Jackson is not cited by name in the indictment.

Attorney Mark Geragos, who had represented Jackson at the time, did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday seeking comment. A phone call to Jackson's spokeswoman, Raymone K. Bain, also was not returned.

Borer was the owner of XtraJet, which operated a Gulfstream jet that carried Jackson. Reeves was the owner of Executive Aviation Logistics, which provided maintenance service for XtraJet's aircraft fleet.

The allegations that Jackson was taped aboard a flight on Nov. 20, 2003, were widely reported at the time. In a lawsuit filed against XtraJet days after the flight, Geragos claimed the charter company covertly installed two cameras in the cabin of the plane.

Xtrajet officials gave the tape to the FBI soon after it was found, and a judge ordered the company not to make or distribute copies. Xtrajet's attorney said at the time that company officials didn't know who was responsible for making the tape.

Geragos complained at the time that the action violated attorney-client privilege in (Mr. Jackson's) case. In June, a jury acquitted Jackson of all charges.

According to the indictment, Reeves purchased the video and audio equipment from three electronics stores in San Bernardino County and, with another suspect, secretly installed the equipment in a concealed part of the airplane's cabin. The indictment did not identify the other suspect, listed as an unindicted co-conspirator.

The microphones were allegedly installed between passenger seat cushions.

Borer instructed Reeves to obtain and install the equipment and later contacted news companies and offered to sell the recordings, the indictment said.

In April 2004, according to the indictment, Reeves told a suspect to lie to FBI agents by saying that the video equipment was installed in an attempt to catch someone who had been stealing alcohol from the aircraft.

Jackson: Full Speed Ahead on Katrina Song

In his first talk with a reporter since the end of his criminal trial, pop superstar Michael Jackson said Saturday he is "moving full speed ahead" on plans to record a song for the benefit of Hurricane Katrina victims and feels that his creative juices are flowing again. In a telephone call to The Associated Press, Jackson said the trial was "the hardest thing I've ever done in my life" and that he and his children were still in Bahrain "resting and recovering" from the ordeal.

Jackson said he has been at work on the charity song, tentatively titled, "From the Bottom of My Heart."

"I'm constantly working on it," he said.

Also on the line was Raymone K. Bain, Jackson's spokeswoman. She said the call would not be a full-fledged interview, and that Jackson just wanted to make contact to express his thanks for what he said was the AP's fair coverage of his trial.

Jackson has been staying in Bahrain as the guest of Prince Abdulla, the son of the king of Bahrain. Of his friend Prince Abdulla, he said, "He's the very best, amazing, so kind."

Asked about his health, Jackson said, "I'm feeling good." The singer had said during his trial that he was plagued by back problems.

Jackson was acquitted of child molestation in June after a five-month trial in Santa Maria, Calif. He has not appeared in public since and has spent much of his time in Bahrain.

Jackson wants the charity anthem to follow the success of the 1984 worldwide hit "We Are the World," which he co-wrote to benefit African starvation victims. Bain has said many artists have agreed to join the project, but the lineup hasn't been finalized.

Music's Biggest Names Join Michael Jackson for Katrina Relief Effort

Washington, D.C. - Michael Jackson is pleased to announce that Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, R. Kelly, Wyclef Jean, Lenny Kravitz, Lauren Hill, Mary J. Blidge, Yolanda Adams, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, James Brown, Snoop Dogg , the O'Jays, and Ciara, are among the artists joining in his hurricane relief song, where all proceeds will be donated to victims of Hurricane Katrina. 



As previously announced, the working title of the song is, "From the Bottom of My Heart," which will be released on 2 Seas Records, owned by Prince Abdullah Hamad Alkhalifa of Bahrain. 



This project is in response to the widespread devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, and because of the human suffering taking place in the Gulf Region of his country.



Mr. Jackson is continuing to reach out to artists who would like to work with him in this project, which he humbly hopes will make a tremendous difference to all individuals who have been affected by this tragedy.

Fans in ACTION: MJFC Helping Hurricane Evacuees - Update

September 11, 2005MJFC RELIEF EFFORT UPDATE:
Most of those seeking refuge from Katrina have found themselves relocated in Texas.  Because of our past work and quick response, the MJFC/ART was contacted to assist a group staying at the Annaville Baptist Church.

This morning, your contributions to the Michael Jackson Fan Club and the American Response Team served the 75 a hot breakfast.

Deborah Dannelly, president of the MJFC, personally oversaw the distribution of 75 breakfast meals to evacuees temporarily living at the Annaville Baptist Church in Texas.  The MJFC will be back again tomorrow morning to provide another breakfast.

Before she left, Deborah asked one of the evacuees if there was anything else that she could do for him.  He repied "Yes.  You can give me your shirt."  (She was wearing a Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary t-shirt!)  She said that she wouldn't give him her shirt but would bring one for him when she returnes on Sunday.

The American Response Team have done a wonderful job, installing several water filtration systems in Louisiana and Mississippi and feeding flood victims. Mike Bradle and the American Response Team is currently taking a short break back in Texas.  Several of the team became ill because of conditions in the affected areas.  They are going to be restocking and recovering.  Within the next two weeks, the ART and the MJFC is undertaking a specific action to assist a large number of evacuees housed at three locations in Texas.  We will be having an update on that shortly.

Michael Jackson to Record Hurricane Relief Song Fundraising Project titled: "From the Gulf to the Gulf"

Within 24 hours, Mr. Jackson will be reaching out to other recording superstars asking that they join him in this project to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina

 Washington, D.C. ... In response to the widespread devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, Recording Superstar Michael Jackson has been moved to pen a song, with the working title, " From the Bottom of My Heart ." 

Hoping to rekindle the success of "We Are the World," which he wrote and produced, and which raised millions of dollars for aid to Africa, Mr. Jackson will be enlisting, within the next 24 hours, the involvement of other recording superstars to join him in this project. It is his intention to record this record within the next two weeks.

"It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf Region of my country," says Mr. Jackson. "My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy. I will be reaching out to others within the music industry, to join me in helping to bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything."

The song will be recorded on 2 Seas Records, a label owned by Prince Abdulla Hamad Alkhalifa of Bahrain. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Dubai, August 29: Dubai has made a big impression on Michael Jackson who was thrilled by the development he saw, and the hospitality he experienced, during his first visit to the Emirate.

The pop superstar has just spent a week exploring the sights of Dubai in the company of H.H.Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamed Al Khalifa, son of the King of Bahrain.

Top Arab motor sport personality Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who escorted Jackson and Sheikh Abdullah around his home city, said: “Michael had a wonderful time and he was surprised and impressed by what he found in Dubai.”
 
“He had heard that some amazing developments are taking place here, but he was still astonished to see the scale of the expansion and particular projects like The World and The Palm Jumeirah.”

AP: Fraud charges filed against mother of Michael Jackson's accuser

LOS ANGELES - The woman whose son accused Michael Jackson of child molestation in a trial that led to Jackson's acquittal was charged with welfare fraud Tuesday in a five-count complaint alleging she collected $18,782 in payments while making false claims she was indigent.

At Jackson's trial, the woman invoked her Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination and refused to testify about the welfare matter.

But Jackson's lawyers presented evidence that she and her family had received a $150,000 settlement in a 2001 lawsuit against a department store at a time when she was claiming to be indigent.

They also showed the woman was receiving money from her boyfriend to pay the rent on her apartment.

The Associated Press is withholding the name of the woman to protect the identity of her son.

The five-count complaint filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Bureau of Fraud and Corruption Prosecutions alleged that the woman hid from authorities the fact that she had received the settlement and also failed to report the receipt of $637 for payment of her rent in January 2003.

It said the payment occurred in February 2003 but was not discovered until a social services investigator received a tip from a private investigator on Feb. 2, 2005. That was just before the Jackson trial began.

The woman was a key witness for the prosecution against Jackson. Many jurors said her lack of credibility on the witness stand was a major factor in their verdict of not guilty.

For several years I have been hearing from my fan friends in London about Anthony King. It started when a friend I was corresponding with just happened to be passing through Covent Gardens and heard Michael’s music blaring out, so he had to check it out.  

“Karen!  There is the wonderful dance class in London… this guy named Anthony King has a class on all of Michael’s moves.  It was amazing… all the people, all different ages, in the class were having such a great time.  If you ever get to London you must check this out.”

My name is Anthony King and I'm a dancer and choreographer from London, England. I learned my moves from the best teacher... Michael Jackson! People always ask me to "bust a move" or teach them the moonwalk so I decided to invite all my friends to teach them at the world famous "Pineapple Dance Studios". People started turning up from all over the world to my classes! It just grew from there! What started out as a dream turned into..."Anthony King's: Michael Jackson Style Dance class"!

It is a joy to teach Michael's style. I see his dancing as a style just as I see Ballet or Modern jazz… the themes and motifs that run through the dance that he creates are technical and quite simply amazing. When Michael's music starts everything stops and I take so much joy that young people, old people and people who would never usually enter a dance studio or a gym, dance and have so much fun! (and boy… do we have some fun!)

 SANTA MARIA TIMES: Restraining Order Is Dismissed

Court TV anchor Diane Dimond this week dropped her restraining order against a Michael Jackson enthusiast from Tennessee who hurled insults at her throughout the pop star's five-month trial in Santa Maria.


Judge Zel Cantor announced in Santa Maria Superior Court Wednesday that Dimond had dismissed the complaint against 18-year-old B.J. Hickman.

On June 9, Dimond slapped the order on Hickman, prohibiting him from coming within 20 yards of her. Hickman, who moved from Knoxville, Tenn. to attend Jackson's trial, often disrupted Dimond's live broadcasts by calling her a "liar," and worse.

Hickman perceived the reporter as pro-prosecution. During jury deliberations in the Jackson case, Hickman hosted a press conference attended by hordes of television and newspaper reporters, denying that he harassed the journalist.

Hickman later demanded in court documents that Dimond pay $30,000 in attorney's fees he claimed to have accumulated while fighting the order. Dimond filed a counter-complaint, requesting that Hickman pay $4,555 in legal bills she supposedly accrued.

A financial settlement was reached this week, but terms were not disclosed in court documents.

Santa Maria attorney Gerardo Camacho, who represented Hickman in the case, declined to comment on specifics from the settlement.

"My client is satisfied," Camacho said, adding that Hickman has returned home to Tennessee. "He's ready to put all this behind him."

Calls to Dimond and her attorney, Seth Gold, were not returned Wednesday.

Dimond, who has covered Jackson's legal woes for more than a decade, is writing a book about the pop star.

A jury in Santa Maria acquitted Jackson on June 13 of child molestation, alcohol and conspiracy charges.

LOS ANGELES - In junior high school, Susan C. Yu told her classmates a lie that's as heartbreaking as it is funny.
        She told them Bruce Lee was her brother.
        Attending racially charged inner-city schools throughout her childhood, it was the only way to survive the bullies.
        "Racism was in your face. It was blunt," said Yu, 42, who entered the public eye when, with her law partner Thomas A. Mesereau Jr., she briefly represented the actor Robert Blake.

        The world got to know her in June when she and Mesereau successfully defended Michael Jackson against child-molestation charges. Yu is Korean-American, but her name is not a common Korean spelling. Reporters from all corners of Asia called to claim her.
        It's hard to picture the slim, polished attorney in a schoolyard fistfight. She burst into tears when Jackson's acquittals were announced.
        "I didn't think I was going to do that at all," she said.
        But those who know her say she is tough and determined, especially when she believes she is fighting a wrong.
        "I depended on her throughout the trial and could not have accomplished any of the things I accomplished without Susan," Mesereau said.
        He said Yu's strength of character made her "indispensable to the victory."
        She also is "a brilliant lawyer" and "a fanatical preparer," he said.

        Growing up in the 1970s, Yu said, her formative years were fraught with violence, hatred and what her mother called euphemistically "germs."
        "I was getting beat up every day," said Yu, who is uninterruptible when she's on the topic of injustice. "It was like going to prison every day."
        In 1969, Yu's family moved from Seoul, South Korea, to San Francisco, escaping the confines of a military dictatorship only to find themselves facing a different challenge: discrimination.
        In Korea, her father was a prosecutor and served as an English translator during the Korean War. Her mother was a schoolteacher who dreamed of becoming a journalist.

        In the United States, they bought a grocery store across the street from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
        Though they soon were able to live in the city's wealthier neighborhoods, their immigrant status kept them from enjoying the privileges of the social elite.
        "If our family went out to dinner, there were empty tables, but we wouldn't be seated,'' Yu said. "I remember asking my mom why they were staring at us, and she said, 'Because your dress is so cute.'"
        Feeling helpless and isolated, Yu found refuge in reading. At 14, she had few friends, other than Jean Paul Sartre, Karl Marx and Vladmir Lenin, with whom she chose to spend her weekend nights at home.

        Yu said she was never a communist but was fascinated with "the human struggle" that many communist thinkers were grappling with.
        Not until she started college did she begin to understand the racism she encountered and how it shaped her.
        Yu described a year-and-a-half break she took from her undergraduate studies at University of California, Berkeley, to help her parents run, of all things, a Jewish deli they owned in the heart of San Francisco.
        Business was booming, and their employees decided they wanted to unionize against her parents' will. The workers formed a picket line and chanted, "Chinks, go home! Koreans, go home! Japs, go home!"

        "They didn't know whether we were Chinks or Koreans or Japs," Yu said. "That's when I felt racism."
        Although Yu draws on those types of experiences as a defender of the underdog, she became a lawyer for an entirely different reason: the fall of the Soviet Union.
        "I was so devastated - very disappointed. I didn't know what to do with my life," said Yu, who majored in Soviet politics and aspired to become a professor and teach the subject.

        Abandoning that goal, Yu, 24, worked in her parent's grocery store while she struggled to decide what to do. There, she met a judicial clerk from the appeals court across street. He convinced her to become a paralegal.
        Answering an ad in the newspaper from an unidentified law firm, she arrived at her interview and saw a sign on the door that read "Coudert Brothers LLP." She had no idea that this was one of the world's oldest and most prestigious law firms.
        "I thought it was Men's Wearhouse," she chuckled.

        Coudert Brothers hired her, and she promptly put up a poster of Karl Marx in her office. She began working on trials with Ron Katz, a litigation partner at the firm.
        Katz, now a partner in Manatt, Phelps & Phillips' Palo Alto office, recalled working with Yu on a major, weeks-long trial in Cleveland that they won.
        "It was as if she was the senior partner on the case," he said. "She was completely dedicated to that case."

        With Katz as an inspiration, Yu decided to become a lawyer herself. She enrolled in Syracuse University School of Law, graduating in 1996. The birth of her 9-year-old son, Michael, delayed the start of her legal career until 1998.
        In Yu's early days as an attorney, she defended cases on behalf of major corporations, including Fortune 500 companies as an associate at Rutter Hobbs & Davidoff in Century City.

        She successfully defended Home Depot U.S.A. Inc. in criminal regulatory compliance matters, in some cases convincing the district attorneys to dismiss the charges entirely.
        She met Mesereau in 2000, when he took office space in Rutter Hobbs' building. The liked working together and became friends. Two years later, Mesereau left the building, and within a year, Yu had followed him.

        Paralegals in their current firm, Collins, Mesereau, Reddock & Yu, joke that the high-octane duo are twins, though there's a foot in height and a decade in age between them. (Yu is 5 feet 6 inches tall and willowy; Mesereau, 55, is 6 feet 3 inches and built like a boxer.)
        "I think I'm a white man, and Tom probably thinks he's a Korean woman," Yu joked. "We're mirror images."
        

Yu lives in Encino with her husband and first love, Joon Song, a real estate developer and their son.
        But, despite acceptance in modern Los Angeles society and her newfound fame, she has not strayed far from her Korean heritage.
        Explaining where she lives, she quickly reveals her center of gravity.
        "It's very close to Century City. It's close to L.A.," she said.
        Then, with precision, she said, "It's 14 miles to Koreatown."

    LOS ANGELES - Thomas A. Mesereau Jr. walked Michael Jackson out the front door of the Santa Maria Courthouse in June and instantaneously became one of the best-known criminal defense attorneys in the nation.
        Reporters from London to Osaka, Japan, wrote gushing profiles of the 55-year-old, silver-maned college boxer. Mesereau demanded - and got - Jay Leno to suspend Michael Jackson jokes for the night before the lawyer agreed to appear on "The Tonight Show."
        Although Mesereau previously defended Mike Tyson and Robert Blake in criminal matters, the attorney built his legal career in Los Angeles defending local no-names, most of whom couldn't afford to pay a dime for their defense.
        He helped found a legal clinic at the First AME Church in South Los Angeles and annually spends his own money to defend a capital murder case in the Deep South.
        Mesereau sat down with Daily Journal City Editor David Houston and reporter Erin Park last week to reflect on Jackson's case and how it might change his life and practice. After a much-needed vacation, Mesereau plans to leave his practice, Collins, Mesereau, Reddock & Yu, to start a new practice with his sidekick in the Blake and Jackson  cases, Susan Yu, that will handle a mix of criminal defense and civil work.
        But first, he had scores to settle, with reporters, prosecutors and even his own pastor. He especially wanted to register disgust with other lawyers he believes feast off the carcasses of their big-name clients. Here's some of what he had to say:

        Q: Do you think your newfound fame will change you?
        A: I hope it doesn't change me in any substantial way. Frankly, I don't want to be known as a celebrity lawyer, and I don't want to be known as a Hollywood lawyer. I want to be known as a civil rights lawyer who fights for justice. [But] there are certainly benefits to being well-known; there are also liabilities.
       

 Q: What are the benefits?
        A: You're probably going to have a larger client base to draw from.
        

Q: And the liabilities?
        A: Invasion of privacy. Don't get me wrong. I feel very blessed that I was in the case. I feel very blessed that we won the case. I feel very blessed to be a friend of Michael Jackson and his family.
      

  Q: Are you recognized now at grocery stores and the mall?
        A: I am.
       

 Q: Do people approach you?
        A: Some people do. Most do not. It hasn't been terrible. It's not like throngs that are rushing up to see me.
       

 Q: It's been reported you got $10 million to do this case.
        A: I'm not going to talk about legal fees and what the costs of the defense were.
       

 Q: Well, you clearly got a big payday. Do you think your lifestyle is going to change?
        A: I don't know the answer to that. It's all too new.
        

Q: You've haven't been shopping for houses in Beverly Hills?
        A: I really haven't.
        

Q: Will you still go to Alabama?
        A: I will still go to the Deep South every year and do a death-penalty case. In fact, at the moment, I'm talking to one of my lawyer friends in Alabama about what the next one will be.
        I do intend to continue to work at the First AME free legal clinic two Sundays a month, although I will not be attending that church anymore because the current pastor [the Rev. Dr. John Joseph Hunter] did not support my efforts in the defense of Michael Jackson.
        

Q: Have you lost other friends because of your defense of Jackson?
        A: Clearly, it has changed my life, and I'm not even aware of some of the ways it has. Clearly, people get jealous. Clearly, people when they see the perception of fame or fortune will sometimes do things that they normally wouldn't do. That just happens to be a fact of life.
       

 Q: What's next?
        A: I've been swamped with calls, obviously. I'm not returning most of them. I'm really not interested in taking any cases at the moment. I really want to just take a break and just relax a little bit. This was a pretty stressful event.
        

Q: Criminal defense lawyers spend so much of their careers scratching for clients, most of whom can't pay their legal fees. When, suddenly, you get a client who can pay and pay well, how can you not become addicted to that? You want to make a living?
        A: Sure. I want paying clients. And if paying clients come in, I'll feel very grateful and very blessed. But I also have a great love for civil rights work.
        

Q: Johnnie Cochran used his O.J. fame to build a nationwide plaintiffs' practice. Is that something you might do?
        A: It's all so recent and so filled with ups and downs, emotionally, that I don't know how to answer the question.
        

Q: What's your opinion of the media's coverage of the case?
        A: It was the most inaccurate - in many ways, unprofessional - media coverage of a case I've ever seen. A lot of people ended up humiliated because they really didn't know what was going on, factually, or how to interpret what was happening in the courtroom.
       

 Q: Was there one thing that stood out to you that you couldn't believe the media didn't pick up on or got wrong?
        A: Not just one thing - so many things. When I heard there was a jury verdict, although I was certainly nervous, as you would be with any jury, I was extremely confident that they were all not guilty. I never imaged 12 people on this jury convicting him of any of these counts.
        

Q: Do you think the trial would have gone differently if it had been televised like the O.J. Simpson case?
        A: I think you would have probably had more accurate reporting. People would have been able to see what witnesses actually said and didn't say and how they looked.
       

 Q: You previously expressed disgust with lawyers you believe put their own interests ahead of their famous client's. Did this trial change how you feel about them?
        A: I will always have a little bit of disdain for lawyers who do this. I think it demeans the profession, I think it hurts their clients, and I think it's bad for the system in general. ...
        Lawyers when thrust in front of cameras have a tendency to think that they're the important person and not the client. They have a tendency to become publicity hounds and media freaks.
     

   Q: You were the butt of jokes on late-night TV, and Vanity Fair published unkind things about your girlfriend, the actress Minnie Fox. Were you aware of those things, and did it bother you?
        A: My typical schedule in trial is to go to bed around 8 o'clock and I get up at 3 in the morning. I like to do three to three and a half hours of work before I enter a courtroom. So I was very unaware of what was happening late at night on television.
        I did hear that Jay Leno's jokes were very troubling and unfair to Michael Jackson and his family... The Vanity Fair article does not surprise me, because the prosecution was perhaps the most mean-spirited prosecution I've ever experienced.
        The relentless attempt to degrade and dehumanize and belittle Michael Jackson was in many ways very regrettable for our legal system and for prosecutors in general.
        The author of the Vanity Fair article was 100 percent in the prosecution's camp. She sat on the prosecution's side in the courtroom whenever she could, and from what I could gather, she had made a career out of saying unkind things about Mr. Jackson.
        So the fact that she would try to influence the jury while they were deliberating by saying unkind things about me or my girlfriend did not surprise me in the least.
      

Q: Celebrities are used to getting their way. Was it hard to keep Michael Jackson in line?
        

A: Michael Jackson himself was the easiest, most delightful client I've ever dealt with. He's a very gentle, kindhearted person. He's very, very honest and open and down to earth. He's willing to listen. The problem was there were so many other voices around him who were trying to get their say.
       

 Q: Were these family members?
       

 A: I don't want to comment on who was trying to get their opinions heard and understood. But clearly, throughout the trial, various individuals were trying to make the client feel as if they were necessary, and they were trying their best to have some influence over the defense. That caused enormous complications for me.
       

 Q: Was Jesse Jackson's arrival in Santa Maria and statements he made to reporters what prompted you to go to the courthouse during jury deliberations and hold that very odd news conference to say that nobody speaks for Michael Jackson but you?
        A: I didn't hold a news conference. What I did was issue a press release. I don't want to go into detail on that issue, but I will say this: I never raised a racial issue in this defense. I never thought a racial issue was appropriate in this defense.
        I truly felt that Michael Jackson is a person who has many gifts, one of which is that he brings people of all races together, that he has a personality and persona that almost transcends race.
        I never did want there to be a perception that we were calling this a racist prosecution, because I never thought it was.
        I thought it was a mean-spirited, nasty prosecution that was very malicious and very unfair to Mr. Jackson. But I always felt it was primarily at his being a megacelebrity rather than his race.
        

Q: What about his being perceived as a freak? Do you think that had something to do with the prosecution's motives? And did you feel that you had to do something to overcome that with the jurors?
        A: I never had any concerns about this jury understanding who Michael is. And I never had any concerns about this alleged perception that he's weird. I think the prosecutors in a very narrow-minded, shallow way thought that perceptions of Mr. Jackson's weirdness would inure to their benefit.
       

 Q: After the trial was over, did you sit down with Michael Jackson and explain to him that he should stop sleeping with boys?
        A: I'm not going to talk about conversations I've had with him. I can just tell you that Michael Jackson is extraordinary compassionate and charitable with people in need.

Symphony of INNOCENCE

Children of the world, there is hope . It is okay to be different and be self-made in mind and spirit. We are now reminded that one should strive to tell the truth and be loyal to one's conscience and remember that karma returns to those who lie with malice. You can choose to stand apart from those who would like to manage your mind and not believe you have to fit into any conventional wisdom or

pyramid of conformity. It's really okay to choose not to follow this cliquish opinion of the moment, or that sheepish behavior. At this moment, Michael Jackson's symphony of innocence is the best thing America has exported to the world in a very long time. It is a blaze of hope.

Listen to the symphony. Listen and watch closely. Notice the nuances from this or that pundit who was so sure that Michael Jackson was guilty. What do you hear? Does it sound logical? Did it ever sound logical? Do you notice certain faces puffing up? Listen to Tom Sneddon's mumbling press conference; it felt like a Humpty Dumpty moment did it not? To all of those who hedged their careers on a Michael Jackson conviction, fear not, the angels of retribution will visit you shortly. Consult your lawyers for details. This includes those who felt it was their right to meddle in his private financial affairs. Last time I checked the pulse of this nation, any person's private property was generally to be respected and honored. Most working people can appreciate that. I guess those moral vultures living outside of that pulse will learn that lesson. Perhaps they need some music for some insight.

A great thing about captivating music is that it can elevate ones awareness toward a more productive plateau. Listen closely to the attempted Michael Jackson career obituaries. This media has tried to tell the public that Michael Jackson's career took a dive in the 90's and has never recovered since. What standard did they use to decide that? A musicologist? Is it because he began to create music and videos that questioned the prevailing conditions of the time, instead of creating music for the dance clubs and charts? Revisionist music historians have tried, unsuccessfully, to desecrate the Jackson name by marginalizing his musical trailblazing achievements. Many "experts" will now have to undergo a credibility review.

For the last week, the world saw pictures of a jail cell. Who should really be there as a retribution of justice? How many? 

Throughout the world, the use of malicious force seems to be used illegally as a tool to exercise more state power over millions of innocent people. Out of this display, children begin to see value in lying and abandon values because they see adults lie constantly only to profit and be rewarded without consequence. Not this time around. There is a wheel of possibilities as to who should fill that jail cell and set an example. Media and legal statisticians are still working out the final tally as to the number of perjuries committed. Stay tuned.

In schools, universities, corporations, and our courts, we have clearly witnessed an epidemic of lies, frauds, the manufacturing of false profits as well as rampant perjury. As a result, we are sleeping complacently in a dangerous bed of lies. Michael Jackson's explosive symphony is a victory for the truth and justice that is possible in all of our lives.

Ladies and gentlemen, to personify integrity isn't out of style. To add value to the world is something to strive for as opposed to striving to be a vampire of someone else's work and wealth. Victory is both peace and an authentic expression of what is possible throughout the cycle of life. 

Michael's triumph and rite of passage is a composition to the world; a unique symphony of innocence. At least, it seems possible that we can lock and load our victorious consciences with faith, diagnose our dangerously sick institutions and peacefully heal our communities.

The end of a tremendous weekend of whirlwind fan events couldn't have ended more perfectly!

Just after MJ Fan Club's Weekend Rally ("MANY NATIONS. ONE VOICE" - organized by Deborah Dannelly), which included a personal phone call from Michael (pictures and stories coming!!), was winding down. and another group of fans had gathered 2000 roses sent by fans from everywhere across the globe (pictures and stories coming!!). I arrived at the Neverland gates. Here, these thousands of roses were beautifully displayed by the fans in baskets honoring all of the emotions we have displayed and felt in these challenging times, welcoming Michael home at the end of the day.

In all my years with Michael I have never witnessed such loyalty, honor and love than I have this weekend.

Fans came from all over the world in support of Michael, the man we have rightfully stood beside during this horrifying injustice. Michael, in recognition of the loyalty and hard work of all his fans opened the gates to every one who was outside. It was as much of surprise to me as it was to everyone else.

After doing the usual organizing of the magical moment, I was asked to lead the parade through the famous Neverland gilded gates. The fans, exploding with questions, could barely contain their excitement as the grounds revealed its wonders of beautiful 200-year-old trees, fountains, sculptures and the tranquil sound of classical music vibrating throughout the acreage. 

As we neared Michael's home, Mr. Joseph Jackson summoned the crowd into Michael's front door. The fans slowly entered with respect and awe as Michael and his three lovely children greeted their guests. 

There is just so much to behold for those who are lucky to glimpse the inside of Michael's home. Everyone took full advantage of the moment to thank the Jackson family and to look at the extensive family photo collection and art that adorns every part of his home. 

Then everyone was invited to explore the backyard and game room. I spent at least 45 minutes sharing many heartfelt moments with everyone, before Michael brought out a box set for every visitor. Joseph was a lovely host as he handed out the CD's and visited with everyone. As the sun was setting it was time to go.

Everyone slowly made there way back to their cars and shared their stories of the day's fortune. It was such a beautiful moment. we will never forget.

At Sunday's meeting, Jackson spoke over the phone, saying, "I love you. God and the truth are on our side. We will be victorious."

"You understand I can't be there today. I wish I could. I know you've travelled from around the world and I'm glad you came."

"I truly believe I have the most wonderful fans in the world. I'm looking forward to being with you very soon. Keep on dancing. I love you all very much."

Local lawyer files motion to dismiss Jackson trial

A well-known South Bay attorney ventured into the world's biggest criminal case Tuesday by filing briefs with the state Supreme Court on behalf of Michael Jackson that allege the pop star is the target of an overzealous prosecution.

The papers filed by attorney Carl A. "Tony" Capozzola ask for an immediate halt to Jackson's ongoing child molestation trial in Santa Maria, now in its third week.

Capozzola said in an interview that he was contacted about two months ago by a member of Jackson's legal team, who sought him out after reading about his work on several high-profile cases.

Capozzola said he has kept himself and his work for his client quiet until now -- filing his motions with the state's highest court on the same day the alleged 15-year-old victim concluded a four-day stint on the witness stand during which many inconsistencies in his story were explored.

"I would like to see the public opinion be acknowledged in the hope -- in the hope -- that the district attorney in Santa Barbara will do the right thing and stop this unjustifiable prosecution," Capozzola said.

News accounts about the Jackson trial printed from the Internet are on Capozzola's desk in his Redondo Beach office that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. He shares photographs of himself with the entertainer taken during a visit to Jackson's Neverland Ranch, posing with Oscar statuettes in a room where pictures of Peter Pan and a young Shirley Temple hang on the walls.

During that Feb. 13 visit, Capozzola had a talk with Jackson about the case. Then the 46-year-old international star signed a retainer hiring Capozzola to pursue appeals in his malicious prosecution lawsuit against Santa Barbara District Attorney Thomas Sneddon.

"I told them before I participated fully in this I would need to speak to Michael personally and be retained on a personal basis," Capozzola said.

What he discovered at Jackson's home that doubles as an amusement park and is the scene of the alleged crimes was that Jackson "is a giant kid who wouldn't hurt a kid."

"I truly believe that he is a person who loves children, but not in a sexual way," Capozzola said. "But the world of Michael Jackson is different from our world."

The father of five added: "I would not have taken this case if I did not firmly believe in the innocence of Michael Jackson and I have never been more confident that he will be exonerated."

Capozzola said he has maintained "frequent" contact with Jackson and his trial attorney, Thomas Mesereau Jr., during the trial in Santa Maria.

The briefs filed Tuesday claim Sneddon and his office did not give the defense adequate time to review tens of thousands of pages of documents in evidence, did not turn over complete witness lists and has wrongly continued a prosecution based on unverifiable information.

Sneddon's involvement in the case is also attacked. Specifically, the papers note that no other district attorneys in the state personally take cases to trial, and add that a prosecutor's personal interest in the case is grounds to disqualify him or her from the proceedings.

"The public ridicule of Mr. Jackson by calling him 'Jacko Wacko' is just one of the instances where his personal involvement has crossed the line," Capozzola said about an interview Sneddon gave to Court TV in November 2003.

Legal expert Laurie Levenson, a Loyola Law School professor who is following Jackson's trial, said the timing of the Supreme Court filing is no accident and, while the high court is unlikely to act on the request, the maneuver highlights the problems with the prosecution's case.

"It's almost impossible to win these motions," Levenson said. "But I don't blame him for trying and it has good PR value."

The filing is the next step in a malicious prosecution lawsuit Jackson brought and lost. Capozzola said he expects the court to decide within four or five days if it will review the case.

Based on the Supreme Court's action, Capozzola said a decision will then be made about filing a federal lawsuit that would address constitutional issues such as due process and vindictive prosecution.

A spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office said a gag order precludes her from commenting on the motion.

Jackson is accused of plying the boy, a cancer patient, with alcohol and sexually molesting him. He is also charged with holding the boy and his family captive at his Neverland Ranch in 2003 and forcing them to take part in a documentary in which he proclaims he shares his bed with children, but in an innocent way.

The case that brought Capozzola to the attention of Jackson's legal team involved his representation of a couple that took their grandchild from Florida to protect her from alleged child molestation by her stepfather. After 13 years on the run, the girl came forward when she turned 18. With Capozzola's help, the grandparents were able to avoid federal charges.

Capozzola's work on behalf of Los Angeles Lakers trainer Gary Vitti in a messy domestic abuse case in which Vitti was acquitted of accusations he strangled his girlfriend also garnered the 45-year bar veteran some positive headlines.

Dear Fans, Several years ago, Michael's fans began to discover me through my make-up and hair website. Answering my mail was the beginning of many wonderful relationships for me. It also made me aware that there was a need for Michael to have his "own" website. 

There were thousands of interesting and informative places a person could go for information, and share their affection for Michael Jackson. The only possible flaw with this was that information was "second hand," gathered by friends, or self-proclaimed insiders, media, or others with their own agenda. 

There is a lot of loving support for Michael on these sites, but I also found them not always completely accurate. I know this to be true.. because I am one of those who has been on the inside enough to recognize what was the truth and what was speculation. It took many years for me to earn Michael's trust and friendship, which has been a great gift that I hold in the highest regard.

Because of all the innovations in communications computers bring, a new world has evolved. Michael recognized the advantage to having his own website. He is a creative genius but he is not Internet savvy. Knowing my affection for his fans, and my understanding of the web world, Michael offered me a position on MJJsource to assist him in bringing the fans and him closer using his site as the tool.

I have been working for MJJsource for about 6 months now. There are people attempting to take credit for creating his site.. but I just want to clarify and give credit, where credit is due. MICHAEL CREATED MJJsource.

The MJJsource team is made up of very talented people that Michael has specifically chosen to bring HIS vision to life. MJJsource is not competing with any other site or club that bears his name. We are here to serve Michael and all the people in the world who love and support him.  When you visit MJJsource, Michael Jackson is opening the door into his life for you. Michael wants to share his art, his joy, his challenges and the truth with you "first hand".

Checkmate: The Case Against Tom Sneddon - By John Karrys

Could this be that pivotal turning point in American history where a District Attorney's practices are proven to manufacture victims or criminals?  Will justice be delivered or manufactured? Since Tom Sneddon serves as vice-president for the National District Attorney's Association, one would logically assume that he has a thorough database and network with all the key prosecutors, judges and future judges. Who would dare to challenge this Hoover protégé? It is not shocking now to see why pundits and lawyers for the media will argue for the "public's right to know" regarding information about the details of the trial and yet are interestingly silent in their analysis of Tom Sneddon.  It certainly seems that Tom Sneddon went into this case with a manic momentum based on power and prosecutorial immunity, rather than on methodically scrutinized evidence and sound reasoning. The basic premises surrounding the kidnapping charges clearly demonstrate how a brilliant legal mind with police power can loosely sculpt the term 'kidnapping' in any manner possible and package it into a charge; and sell it to a judge. 

Although Tom Sneddon has thrown a pile of charges on Michael Jackson, the main counts of child molestation are the ones that strike a hysterical chord in all of our imaginations. The citizens for Dade County, Florida will never forget when state attorney Janet Reno made a name for herself by falsely accusing day care operators of being child molesters, and, as Judge Napolitano says, "created a national paranoia and frenzy so that the public would rally to her side." This kind of fame put her into the position to serve as attorney general of the United States. Her atrocious record of maliciously fabricating allegations of child molestation and prosecuting innocent people was her rite of passage to glory. It didn't matter that these charges were later proven false. Don't think Tom Sneddon doesn't sample this playbook in his addiction to power.

One can logically deduce that Tom Sneddon has, both within and outside of the county of Santa Barbara, allies who have a lot to profit from a conviction. Prime vineyard property and lucrative publishing assets will lure any legion of parasitic sociopaths to participate. For Sneddon to receive such favourable mainstream press, like the seasoned politician who makes deals to secure votes with special interest groups, it is likely that he has made promises to more than the accuser's mother. If it is common practice for certain analysts and/or pundits to be paid by the federal government to promote this new economic stimulus package or that new initiative, then why could it not be the case that certain media outlets have been directed not to scrutinize Tom Sneddon and his suspicious case history to the same degree that they dissect Michael Jackson? He's in the same fish bowl, is he not?

 In this land of purposeful delusion where realities are created, it is blatantly obvious that behind the façade of a tabloid child molestation case lies a quintessential shakedown where the District Attorney acts under the illusion that he has grand immunity from illegal conduct. Who would dare prosecute a fellow prosecutor of his standing, influence and economic utility? 

Any law-abiding American that has been a legitimate victim of a person's reckless abuse of legal power might eventually ask these questions: since 1982, were any interest groups, within or around Santa Barbara, granted privileges and/or guaranteed prosecutorial immunity from Tom Sneddon in order for him to remain District Attorney? 

History has repeatedly taught us that there is an ominous danger when an individual or a group of individuals are allowed unchecked power, and where the members of the community fear to say anything due to the possibility of intimidation. The abundance of legal weapons a DA has over a community is consistent with the military weapons a Commander-in Chief has over the world.


What will it take to reverse the tragic consequences of a government that is growing in size, power and prosecutorial immunity? The premises, evidence and case against Tom Sneddon will be weighed and measured with the same degree as the case against Michael Jackson. The rest will follow.
