Glove To Be Auctioned Off

Profiles in History, which was founded in 1985 by Joseph Maddalena, is the US’s leading dealer in guaranteed authentic, original, historical autographs; letters; documents; vintage signed photographs and manuscripts. They are the top auction house in the world for selling Hollywood memorabilia. In October, 2009, Profiles in History will auction off the King of Pop’s iconic illuminated white glove.

Arguably the single most iconic piece of Michael Jackson memorabilia ever, the glove is adorned with crystals from Michael Jackson’s “Suit of Lights,” which was worn on stage during The Jackson’s Victory Tour in 1984. The glove was specially designed by Ted Shell of Ted Shell Designs and is covered in bugle beads and Austrian crystal rhinestones. It was also fitted with 50 small lights that are powered by a single 9v battery placed in the cuff of the glove. These tiny glass lightbulbs were wired on separate circuits, making them twinkle at random for added visual impact on stage.

Only two of these illuminated gloves were made for Michael’s use on the Victory Tour in 1984. In 1986 Michael gave this one back to Ted Shell as a gift. The glove is accompanied with a signed letter of authenticity by Shell as well as a signed letter by Judie Mallen of L.A. Marquee Special Lighting Effects, who installed the lights in the glove for the tour.

Joe Maddalena, president of Profiles in History commented,

Michael Jackson was the undisputed King of Pop. This glove, used at the zenith of his career, is the most symbolic piece of his on-stage legacy, as he will always be remembered as the ‘gloved one’—one of the greatest cultural icons of the 20th century. This glove is the ultimate piece of Jackson’s performance memorabilia in the world. It is truly priceless.”

The glove, along with several other Michael Jackson items, will be available as part of Profiles in History’s next auction, which is set for October 1 and 2, 2009.
