Seven Chinese acrobats were selected to be part of the international cast for a highly anticipated new Michael Jackson show in Las Vegas.
The first full-length dress rehearsal took place on the night of May 18, 2013.
“We were surprised and thrilled,” said Xu Fengshuo, one of the acrobats, when Cirque du Soleil chose him and others.
The Chinese acrobats are all from Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe. They arrived in Montreal in November 2012 to prepare for the show.
“Michael Jackson ONE” is a new creation that will exclusively take place on a specially designed theater in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. It will be a theatrical tribute to Jackson’s creative genius.
Jackson’s artistry and spirit will be expressed through the vibrant energy of a cast of 63 dancers and performers, underscored by aerial performances, driving acrobatics, and vivid choreographies with a urban hip-hop style.
The show directed by Jamie King and the help of the Director of Creation Welby Altidor will include intense visual effects, 3D projections and holograms.
The preview performances of “Michael Jackson ONE” will start on May 23, 2013. The team is still experimenting, adjusting, and playing with ideas until its world premiere on June 29.
This brand-new show is the second project developed by Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson after the top grossing “Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour”.
