‘The Voice’ Top 8 performance by Judith / Mentor proud

“The Voice” 2013 top 8 performance show on May 27 started out with Team Adam’s Judith Hill rendition of “#thatpower” from will.i.am and Justin Bieber. Talk about a tough assignment and a tall order on a TV talent show.

But that didn’t stop this contestant from shining. After all, Judith Hill is known as a very strong singer who can handle everybody and anything. To be sure, she sang with Michael Jackson when The King of Pop was preparing his last tour and she held her own and then some.

So why wouldn’t this vibrant member of “The Voice” be able to keep up with (or even outshine) one of the Peas and The Biebs during a number that seemed a bit out of this singer’s wheelhouse, at least in the traditional sense?

That question was rhetorical. Judith Hill, dressed as if she was time traveling back to the 1970s in a belted jumpsuit, reinvented “#thatpower” into a funky number that matched the best music of the era of the outfit that she was wearing on “The Voice” stage. No doubt this diva made this song her own.

After her performance, Blake Shelton called what Hill did classic for this soulful singer and Usher uttered that Judith Hill gave the will.i.am and Justin Bieber tune a “new face.”

Meanwhile, Shakira said Judith was handily able to “flip the script” when it came down to her musical choices in this particular song that was far away from the genre for which Hill is known.

As for mentor Adam Levin?
