5 Things We (Still) Miss About Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson left an infinite imprint in music after he passed away four years ago today (June 25). And remnants of his influence linger on in artists like Chris Brown and Beyonce. Musicians continue to place a piece of MJ’s sound in their work and in his honor, VIBE commemorates the legend with 5 things we still miss about the irreplaceable King of Pop. 1. His Iconic Dance MovesOther artists may imitate MJ’s moves (::cough:: Chris Brown), but nothing is as original or looks as effortless as the King of Pop’s footwork. Oh, and how could we forget the moonwalk?

2. His Live Performance ProductionWe have the world’s greatest live performers, like Prince and Beyonce, at our disposal. But nowadays, singers and even rappers are lip-syncing and the power of a good performance is somewhat lost on a generation blinded by iPhones in the air. Michael, like his predecessors, set the standard for what a live performance should look, feel and sound like. From elaborate stage designs to the infamous gush of wind that would blow his white button-down shirt open, audience members were either at a loss for words or passed out.

3. His Ear For Great Production With Quincy Jones behind the control boards, artists have sampled Michael Jackson’s musical productions across every genre. Maybe there might be a few unreleased tracks from MJ that will eventually leak to the masses.
