Spotlight Series: A moment with teacher, Thaddeus Bell
WILMINGTON—The first song on Michael Jackson’s seminal album Thriller is ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.’
It’s appropriate, for if it weren’t for Jackson, Thaddeus Bell, a jazz musician and teacher at the North Intermediate School, might have never discovered his passion.
After his dad purchased Thriller, the young Bell would often differentiate the drumbeats.
“I always liked music,” he said. “Before I knew there was such a thing as a musical ear, I guess I had one.”
He then had an inexplicable desire to be in band. It was something that he knew he had to do, but he didn’t know why. He joined. And so began the cultivation of his musical talents.
