Michael Jackson fan Cleo Higgins has found her musical calling after wowing us on BBC talent show The Voice.

The former Cleopatra singer is paying homage to her ultimate musical hero by performing his greatest hits in the UK tour of the hit musical Thriller Live.

And she says her first theatre role is one that fits her like a sequined glove after growing up listening to the King of Pop’s music.

She told me: “I landed the role having just done The Voice and I was quaking in my boots. But it’s where I’m supposed to be.

“I am always excited to be singing Michael Jackson songs and I’m in my element because it is a dream role.

“It feels so normal for me because he moulded me into who I am as a singer and how I record and write songs. He inspired me heavily.”

This isn’t the first time that Cleo, who grew up in Moss Side, has wowed audiences by singing Michael Jackson classics.

The 31-year-old sang MJ’s Leave Me Alone on The Voice earlier this year.

And she and her sisters Zainam and Yonah impressed the music legend himself with their 1998 cover version of Jackson 5’s I Want You Back in their pop heyday. He was so bowled over he invited them to watch him in concert followed by a meet and greet which sadly didn’t happen because he became unwell.

Cleo, who sings Blame It On The Boogie and a sultry rendition of The Way You Make Me Feel in the tribute show which heads to Manchester Opera House in January, explained: “We got a licence to record I Want You Back and he thanked us by giving us tickets for his concert.
