Hitsville U.S.A. is hunting for young talent again.
Open auditions for “Motown: The Musical” will be held Oct. 21 at the Motown Museum’s Studio A, as the show seeks performers for both its Broadway and touring casts.
Berry Gordy Jr.’s musical debuted on Broadway last year, and the touring version will start a four-week run at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre on Oct. 21.
The casting-call announcement says the show is looking for “African-American men and women, ages 20s-40s, with exceptional voices,” along with a boy age 8 to 13 to play the multiple roles of Gordy, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
One young Detroiter, Jibreel Mawry, landed that latter role for the musical’s Broadway launch. Another hometown singer, Jawan Jackson, landed a part as the Temptations’ Melvin Franklin during Motown Museum auditions in 2012.
“All candidates must have amazing soulful voices to play different performers from Motown history,” reads the news release. “All vocal parts are encouraged to attend.”
Auditions will run 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Motown Museum, 2648 West Grand Blvd., Detroit. More details:www.motownthemusical.com/casting.
