2003 - MJ Back In Indiana
Michael Jackson returned to Indianapolis, Indiana (USA) for the postponed deposition to answer questions in a lawsuit about alleged copyright infringement in regard to the 1996 album ‘Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings.’
Michael arrived at the Canterbury Hotel in Indianapolis Monday evening June 9 and later went to the Circle Center Mall at about 8 pm where he was very cordial to fans that approached him there. Michael wandered through several stores before heading back to the hotel about 10:40 pm. Each store would be closed to other shoppers while he was there, but Michael would invite small groups of fans into the store, where he would speak with them and sign autographs. For example he chatted with members of a high school girls’ volleyball team from Oklahoma who were let into a store to meet him.
As reported by Indy Star News Michael held out his hand to 7-year-old Debby Esparza, from Eden, North Carolina. Shaking the little girl’s hand, he commented on the small rhino on her red shirt.
“I like your sticker,” Jackson told her.
Michael also signed a $1 bill for the second-grader Debby.
“He was cute, really cool and sweet,” Debby said.
Erik Williams, 19, and Darrick Neal, 18, were shopping when they saw the crowd and walked over. They said that after they called out Michael’s name, he came toward them and signed an autograph for each.
“He’s the King of Pop and he’s from Indiana,” Neal said.
Accompanied by mall security guards, Michael joked with them that he knew the layout of the mall as he’d just been there last month.
