Re: MJ-Upbeat Comment's in Santa Barbara News.

(Statement Below By Bonnie Lamrock/MJ-Upbeat)

It appears there has been a misunderstanding with some fans concerning our comment's in July 29th's article in The Santa Barbara News. It also appears there was a portion of our paragraph not printed. 'Fan circulates petition to shield singer from jail'
.

Below is a copy of our comment's concerning a petition started to encourage Michael Jackson on settling for a 'no contest plea' in order to avoid imprisonment:

While I respect the opinion's of all Michael Jackson fans, and I deeply care for what the future holds for Michael Jackson, I believe that if our justice system is 'truly' as fair and just as it claims to be, then Michael Jackson will have no need to agree to a 'no contest plea'! Michael Jackson will be a free man based on his innocence, his honesty and a fair justice system.

I believe in Michael Jackson 100%.

MJ-Upbeat wishes to express that we do 'not' endorse this petition in any way.We were approached by Mr Scott Steeplton, the assistant metro editor of the 'Santa Barbara News' Wednesday evening. He asked for our opinion on this issue. Our initial reaction was to refrain from comment.

We felt that this issue was really not an area we felt comfortable speaking on and that Michael and his attorney's were perfectly capable of dealing with things. We have always believed in Michael's innocence and we have supported him in many ways throughout this ordeal, (See MJ-Upbeat's Support For MJ). We feel that the thought of people suggesting to Michael on settling for a 'no contest plea', (despite their good intention), is like they are suggesting that he settle for second best by lowering himself to be named as a pedophile for the rest of his life. Michael is 'not' a pedophile so we do not feel he should accept the label of being known as one for any reason.  It contradict's everything he is as a human being.

Too many children are aware of this trial and have faith in him to pull through as do we.

We feel Michael should know that not all fans agree with this petition and that some fans have faith in his choice in legal team to make the right decision's concerning this case and ultimately, concerning his life. We feel that if the justice system serves him correctly, then his truth and innocence will ultimately set him free. The only way Michael would 'ever' be sent to prison, is if the justice system fails him,,,this would be a travisty which would turn the world upside down!!  As Michael once said: "The Truth Will Win This Marathon In Court"!

'These' are some of the reason's why we decided to write back to the Santa Barbara News.

At the end of our short letter, we put the words' I Believe in Michael Jackson 100%'.  This was 'Not' included in the news story.

We hope this helps fans to understand where we are coming from ..........Below is a copy of the email correspondence between MJ-Upbeat & Santa Barbara News-Press.

MJ-Upbeat believes in Michael Jackson and looks forward to the day he can put all this behind him. Until that day we will stand behind him in every way we can. We apologize if there was any misunderstanding concerning this article.

Hello Bonnie,

I saw your Web site on Michael Jackson. I'm with the Santa Barbara (Calif.) News-Press. Some fans here are circulating a petition to get Michael Jackson to agree to a no contest plea, thus keeping him out of prison.

I'm trying to get a different voice on the matter and am wondering if, as a fan, you think it's wise for him to admit to anything at this point? Why or why not?

I know it's later in the day your time (it's 3 p.m. here) but I am hoping you could e-mail me a response by, say, 9 p.m. your time. My story is running Thursday, July 29. Please include your age, the correct spelling of your name and city if you respond.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Like I said, the story runs on Thursday.
