“The King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson” by author and costumer Michael Bush has won the Gold Medal for best gift-holiday-specialty book at this year’s PubWest Book Design Awards. Bush served as Jackson’s longtime personal designer for 25 years.
Published by Insight Editions late last year, the book also won the Gold Medal in the Pop Culture/Leisure category at the Independent Publishers Book Awards earlier this year.
The PubWest Design Awards, in its 29th year, recognizes superior design and outstanding production quality of books throughout North America. The awards will be doled out at PubWest 2013 in Santa Fe, Nov. 7-9.
The awards are judged annually by a panel of the industry’s top professionals, concentrating on cover and interior design, materials, typography, content and format.
“Working with Michael Jackson for as long as I did was inspiring, fascinating and remarkable,” Bush said, adding that the awards “only reiterates what a tribute this book is to Michael’s enduring legacy.”

The book is just visually stunning. I only started reading it about a month ago. When the book arrived and I unwrapped it, I expressed an appreciative sigh. I was so tempted to page through it, so anxious to see the photos of Michael. But I fought the temptation-I want to let each chapter unfold slowly and then “simmer” as I read and savor every word. I’m only a few chapters into the book but it is unquestionably my favorite personal account of MJ to date. Congratulations on another well-deserved award, Michael Bush! I’ll bet Michael is thrilled!
I’m proud of Bush. He’s doing a good job keeping Michael’s legacy alive. <3
He certainly is!
