During his life, Michael Jackson made unexpected connections with everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Andy Warhol.

Today marks what would’ve been Jackson’s 55th birthday. Here are a few more of his celebrity connections that might surprise you:

1. Doug Benson. Before he became known as a comedian and podcaster, Benson worked as a background actor in several ’80s movies and, interestingly, Jackson’s 1986 sci-fi feature (and Disney theme park staple), Captain EO. In the video below, he talks about what it was like to be a non-dancer in the chaotic, dance-heavy production:

2. Ira Glass. In 1972, when the host of This American Life was 13 years old, he met a young Jackson while on a family vacation. He tells the story below, and here’s the photographic evidence.

3. Marilyn Manson. Manson says he was often mistaken for Jackson while the singer was alive. He also owns up to owning several pieces of MJ memorabilia, including a marionette that he once showed to his pal (and Jackson’s ex) Lisa Marie Presley:

4. Adam Ant. The musician says he couldn’t believe his ears when Michael called him one day to ask where Ant bought his clothing. (He adds that Jackson also asked about the drum sound on Adam and the Ants‘ 1980 single Dog Eat Dog.)
