MJ’s Brothers To Perform J5’s Hits / L.A. County Fair

Only love can turn a tragedy into a celebration. When Michael Jackson died in 2009, his brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon Jackson, were swamped with emails from fans around the world asking them to tour. The four men agreed and launched the Unity Tour in 2012 to honor their legendary brother and keep their original message of universal love going.

The tour was slated to end in July, but The Jacksons are still performing and are slated to take the stage at the Los Angeles County Fair on Sept. 12.

The concert is expected to feature hits by the Jackson 5, as well as Michael Jackson’s popular tunes and more.

“We do all our songs. We try to cover everything,” Marlon Jackson said. “The hardest thing to do is to pick which songs we want to do, then it’s putting them in order and arranging the show. … we try to get the songs that we think the audience would want to hear.”

The Jacksons all contributed to creating their material over the years. Marlon Jackson said he likes all of his group’s tunes, but admitted his favorite is “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.”

“We wrote together, we wrote separately,” Marlon Jackson said. “You can’t sit down and say I’m going to write a song, it doesn’t work that way. It just comes to you and you start working on it. We would get together and just chill out, fool around and all of a sudden come up with an idea, a song, and fool around with it.”

Despite their ages — Marlon Jackson, 56, is the youngest and Jackie Jackson, 62, is the eldest, they put on an energetic show incorporating many of the dance moves that made them stand out in their youth.

Jackson credits the initial success of the Jackson 5 to their parents, and then to Berry Gordy and his team at Motown.

“We were able to travel the globe and experience various cultures” through the Motown connection, Marlon Jackson said.

“We’re bringing people together in harmony and peace as one. Everybody enjoyed themselves and that’s what the world needs today,” he said.
