Swiss Jet Aviation honoured two great musicians Leonard Dembo and Michael Jackson through a fashion show held over the weekend at Holiday Inn in the capital. About 20 jackets resembling Michael Jackson’s outfits and trademark Leonard Dembo hats were paraded by three models.
Swiss Jet Aviation Manager Honour Moyo said there were happy for successfully launching the show.
“We found it worth to appreciate the late Dembo because of the achievements and accolades he scooped during his time.
“The idea is about celebrating Zimbabwean icons and world heroes,” said Moyo.
“We are grateful for the support we got from people who attended the show although people seem to be unaware of the real idea,” he said.
He said there was need to honour these musicians giving example of Dembo’s song “Chitekete” that was once played at Miss World finals.
Moyo added that the show will be spreading its wings.
“On a monthly period we will hold the shows in different parts of the country, identifying people who did heroic things and give them a token,” he said.
Rising musician Tendai Dembo, son to the late legend said he was humbled by the recognition his family got.
“Fortunately, I am here to represent my family unlike Jackson, it was an opportunity for me to explain the journey of my father in the music industry,” he said.
The young Dembo also sang some of the yesteryear songs like “Chitekete,” “Shiri Yakangwara” and some of songs on his current album called “Tsika Matsimba”.
Another dancing outfit called Extreme Vision delivered polished acts of the late Jackson’s songs and dances.
